Mantis saved by last minute goal against Dettol

MMU CUP 08/09 - Quarter Finals

A last-minute goal dashed Dettol's hopes of making it to the semi-final round of the MMU as they went down 0-1 to Mantis FC in MMU Stadium today. Dettol kicked off the game, and the Black Wolves were quickly on the attack, and a few minutes in Sharvin came close to the opener after a through ball from Det found the striker but his flick went agonizingly wide of the post. A minute later Syafazat had a good chance on goal but the midfielder put the ball bounce off the post. Dettol had a clear command over the possession of the ball at this stage, with the side pushing forward in search of a goal that would open up the game.

The first few minutes of the second half saw Mantis create more space on the left wing, and they used it to good effect, moving the ball well down the flank and whipping in crosses for the strikers. The Dettol defence dealt with the danger of aerial attacks well, and Mantis struggled to create any attempts at goal. Mantis were on a threatening counter attack, but Dettol's center back Eng How and Shahir did well to stop the move before the were able to reach the goal. The defenders did well towards the end to keep Mantis at bay. Where a goalless draw seemed the likely conclusion before Mantis's midfielder, Lan lit up with a goal in the last minute that brings Mantis FC to the semi-finals. It was a tough match. Both teams had their on-and-off moments of possession and energy, and a draw would’ve been more than fair for both teams.
